Brass Bash
The Big Brash Bash started with Les Traine-Savates entertaining the shoppers in the Town Centre on Thursday 14th July. Les Traine-Savates were one of the four bands who played at the Party in the Park event on the same day. The bands are all taking part in Durham’s Big Brass Bash, an annual event.
The Party in the Park attracted many people who listened and danced to the sound of Les Traine-Savates, NYBB (New York Brass), Beat ‘n’ Blow and Mr Wilson’s Second Liners. Anyone who was expecting the night to be typical ‘colliery’ brass bands would have been astonished at the total contrast to what was on offer!
There was also a brass performance at Horndale School as part of the Big Brass Bash.
The Fairground
Moore Lane Park played host to Coopers fairground which was very popular. It started on Wednesday and finished on Sunday.
Agnew Fun Day
The Fun Day at the Agnew Center on the 16th of July was a resounding success. We could not have wished for a better turn out by the community. There were lots of inflatables to go on and the face painting was fantastic.
We would like to say thank you to the local police who turned out in ‘force’ with their police van for the youngsters to look around and their friend the PC Bull who showed great courage on the Rodeo Bull.
The weather on Saturday was fantastic which topped off a perfect event. We have another day planned for the last week of the summer holidays and we would like to invite all the residents in Newton Aycliffe to come along (not just the residents of the Agnew estates).
We are looking forward to the next event and hope to see some new faces cross the threshold of the Agnew Centre.
The Pioneering Care Partnership (PCP)
A very popular event, the PCP hosted a family fun day on Saturday 16 July in the grounds of the Pioneering Care Centre in Newton Aycliffe.
Over 430 attended the event and had a go at plant potting, animal handling, card making smoothie making and biscuit decorating.
Visitors also got to meet Olaf, Elsa, Dave the Minion, Punch & Judy, Bobby the Bull and Professor Nincompoop!
The sun was out too, so people made most of the activities and games in the garden.
Lauren Robson attended the fun day with her husband Michael and children Finley, 4 and Amelie, 1, and said “We’re having a great day out, there’s so much variety and different things to do. I didn’t realise how much PCP did at the Pioneering Care Centre, across County Durham and beyond. We will definitely be keeping an eye on future activities and events. It was very friendly, fun and well organised.”
PCP delivers a full range of interesting activities to help people get fit, learn a new skill, discover a new hobby or improve their confidence and self-esteem. The event was a good opportunity to welcome people to the Centre and showcase what activities and services PCP have on offer to benefit the community.
Neville Tea Dance with Kinexus
Melodic sounds of Kinexus, plus tea with sandwiches and scrumptious cakes galore made for a wonderful afternoon at Neville Community Centre. Kinexus sang songs such as ‘Lipstick on your collar’, and ‘Don’t sit under the Apple Tree’ which had everyone dancing in their seats.
Family Fun Day – Neville Parade
Families enjoyed a day of activities, both in the sunshine outside and indoors. Children bounced to their heart’s content, had their faces painted and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
STEM
Full Ahead ran on Monday 18th on what was the hottest day of the year, There were 460 year 5/6 and 7s attended with 22 separate STEM activities from a mad scientist to Sub Sea ‘underwater’ Robots and the children even used a huge Suspension Bridge. 3M showed the children some of the latest breathing Technology which they really found interesting. We had some fantastic support from volunteers from Great Aycliffe Youth Council and from Woodham Academy, everyone really stepped up to the mark to show how STEM Science, Technology Engineering and Maths is used in the workplace.
Social Evening
A ‘full house’ of over 80 people enjoyed an evening of dancing to live music by ‘The Smokin’ Spitfires’ as well as a buffet, quiz and raffle. The evening has been held for the past two years as part of the Aycliffe Festival and received a big ‘thumbs up’ from everyone who attended.
Music Night – Newton Aycliffe Working Mens’ Club
The Music Night at the ‘Big Club’ with Ocean and Micky Rich was a great success again this year. The contrast of music from the band and the solo artiste really complemented each other. A great night was enjoyed by all who attended.
