Jubilee Wood Tree Planting

Planting of the Jubilee Wood Tree
Jubilee Wood Tree

As part of Great Aycliffe Town Council’s Project to plant a woodland to commemorate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012 local residents were invited to help plant some of the first trees on the site in Woodham Burn.

Over several more than 6000 trees were planted to help transform the area of rough grassland behind Woodham Technical College into an area of woodland with wildflower meadows created in glades surrounding the trees in the spring.

The majority of the trees are British native species to help attract and encourage local wildlife, in addition several specimen trees were also planted to increase varieties including several species of fruit trees.

A public tree planting event took place on Sunday 20 November.
