Senior Citizens Excursions
The ‘trips’ will commence on Monday 3rd June this year.
Our Senior Citizens’ Excursions are free of charge to our residents, regardless of your income or savings. We provide you with a choice of venue for the day, a three course meal with tea or coffee in a good quality establishment with disabled facilities.
To be eligible, you do not have to be receiving a pension or have a bus pass, but you MUST be a resident of the Electoral Parish and 60 years old (applies to both men and women) by 1st April in the year of travel.
The application forms and full itinerary with information on each destination and menus etc. will be available from Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre, the Library, Council Offices, Oakleaf Sports and Golf Complexes and this website no earlier than 9.00 am on Wednesday 24th April. There is a menu of related information pages at the top of this page.
When you submit your application form you MUST provide proof of your age and where you live so that we can authenticate your right to travel on our excursions as they are only open to residents of the Electoral Parish of Great Aycliffe. You can post your form, bring it to our offices, or e-mail it to us, but you must include the proof of age and residency with your form.
If you have a query regarding your entitlement to an excursion, please telephone 01325 300700 and we will check your eligibility.
On most of the excursions we also have a comfort stop on the outward and/or return journeys. We usually provide tea or coffee with a biscuit on either the outward or homeward journey. Please see the itinerary (when published in April) regarding the stops en route. Our visits for 2019 will be to Scarborough, Berwick in the Scottish Borders, South Shields, Keswick, Blackpool and Northumberland.
You may wish to purchase refreshments at the comfort stop where we do not supply refreshments but please be aware that prices charged at the comfort ‘stops’ are often the subject of complaints on our customer surveys. Unfortunately we have no control over this, although we have looked for alternative venues.
All coaches provided are 49-53 seater executive coaches with toilet facilities. A coach (to each destination) has a wheelchair hoist for passengers who cannot manage the high steps on the coach. This ensures that even people with severe mobility problems or people who need to travel in their wheelchair can enjoy a day out.
The Excursions are extremely popular and it is inevitable that we may not be able to accommodate everyone on their preferred destination or date. If we cannot provide the date or venue of your choice we will endeavour to provide an acceptable alternative for you.
