After leaving Aycliffe, we head for Whitley bay sea front. You could visit the refurbished Spanish City. In the summer of 2018 – following years of redevelopment work and a £10m investment, Spanish City reopened as a leisure venue complete with Fish & Chip restaurant and takeaway, waffle and pancake house, Champagne bar, fine-dining restaurant, traditional tearooms and an event space. Valerie’s Tearooms is open from 9 am and sells a variety of breakfast delights. Please note there are other cafeterias around the corner.
If you’d rather, you could enjoy a walk along the promenade.
After Whitley Bay, we drive to Doxford Hall Hotel in Northumberland where lunch will be served:
After lunch we will take you to Alnwick for some free time. Alnwick Gardens and Castle are well worth a visit. The admission price to the Garden for concessions is currently £10.50 (without gift aid). The Treehouse Restaurant in the Gardens is spectacular, even if you just want a tea and cake from the Potting Shed. You can visit the Treehouse without purchasing a ticket for the Gardens or Castle.
The Town also has some interesting independent shops. Market day is Friday, and all but the 11th June excursion to Northumberland are on Fridays.
On the journey home we will make a comfort stop at the Derwent Manor Hotel for tea and biscuits.
