Whitby Harbour

Our first stop after leaving Newton Aycliffe is Whitby.

Royal Hotel Restaurant

You will have an hour and a half free time to explore and perhaps have a cup of tea or coffee, maybe a biscuit or two.

Whitby is famous for many things: it’s a traditional seaside resort with Blue Flag beaches, and has some of the best fish and chips around, but don’t be tempted!  Your 3 course lunch is only a while away!

We will leave Whitby at 12 noon and drive straight to the Royal Hotel in Scarborough. The Royal Hotel dates back to the 1830s, and its grand imposing architecture, including The Royal’s famous staircase and atrium, still bear all the hallmarks of the Regency Period. Many of the rooms have been refurbished, yet retain all their archaic ornamentation and historic spirit, which mirror a time of class and style. This hotel has attracted many famous guests over the years, including Winston Churchill, who remarked “The Royal is my favourite hotel”, as well as Edith Sitwell and Robert Luff.

Lunch at 1.00 pm will be served in the restaurant (shown above):

Tomato & Basil Soup
Braised Steak in Ale, Mushroom & Thyme Sauce with Seasonal Vegetables & Potatoes
Royal Tipsy Trifle
Tea or Coffee
After lunch, you are free to explore the delights of Scarborough. You can immerse yourself in Scarborough’s history with Scarborough Castle and the Rotunda Museum of geology or you could venture down to the seafront for a gentle stroll, enjoy the traditional amusement arcades, ice cream parlours, shellfish stalls and beach huts or now you could have fish and chips if you have any room left!

North Bay Miniature Railway

Battleships at Peasholme Park

Outdoor adventures can be found too; try boating in Peasholm Park or take a ride on the miniature railway or make friends with the penguins at Scarborough Sea Life Sanctuary.

We will be leaving Scarborough at 4.45 pm from the bus stop underneath the Spa Bridge.

On the way home we will stop at Gisborough Hall Hotel for tea or coffee with home made shortbread.
