The Council elects a Town Mayor (Chairman of the Council) from amongst its members and the Mayor elected for the municipal year 2012 – 2013 is Councillor Mrs Val Raw. She has chosen Councillor Mrs. B.A. Clare or Mrs. P. Johnson to accompany her to events as her Mayoress.
Councillor Mrs. Raw has lived in Newton Aycliffe for 40 years and has served as a Councillor since 1999.
Now retired she enjoys spending time with her family and friends and helping with her younger grandchildren.
The charities Val has chosen to raise funds for during her year in office will be the Butterwick Hospice, Local Town Organisations and a donation to help Soldiers to cope with physcological problems when returning from war zones.
