Important Public Update – Incinerator Permit Application
Environment Agency to Attend the Town Council Environment Committee Meeting on 9th July
Great Aycliffe Town Council had invited Mr Ian Jones, CEO of Fornax (North East) Ltd to a meeting of the Council’s Environment Committee on Wednesday 9th July to discuss Fornax’s application to the Environment Agency for an Environmental Permit to run a thermal heat treatment facility for the incineration of clinical and hazardous waste in Newton Aycliffe.
Residents may be aware that the Environment Agency’s public consultation deadline has now been extended to Friday 18th July, due to the considerable public opposition to the granting of a permit.
Due to the Environment Agency’s decision to extend the consultation deadline, Mr Jones has informed the Town Council that he will now not be able to attend the Town Council’s meeting on 9th July, as he is unable to answer questions while the public consultation is still live.
Representatives of the Environment Agency will, however, attend the meeting to give a brief presentation and answer questions from the public and councillors.
For health and safety reasons the capacity of the Council Chamber is limited and pre-registration is essential for attendance.
There are still a few places remaining for members of the public who wish to attend, please contact the Council Offices on 01325 300700.
Anyone who has already registered to attend the meeting will not need to reapply.
It would be appreciated if any questions for the Environment Agency can be notified to the Town Council, in advance, in order to facilitate a smooth meeting and ensure as many questions as possible may be answered.
Questions are required by midday on Friday 4th July.
