Pilates Classes

What is Pilates?

Pilates is an exercise programme using slow controlled movements to target the deep core muscles of the body. It is great for the abdomen, spine, pelvic floor, and joints. Pilates is a complete exercise method developed by its founder Joseph Pilates over the course of a lifetime dedicated to improving physical and mental health.

Pilates focuses on building your body’s core strength and improving posture through a series of low repetition low impact stretching and conditioning exercises and is particularly beneficial to the spine.

By core strength, we are talking about your back, abdominal and pelvic muscles. Through pilates, you will be able to develop these muscles without adding bulk, increasing your flexibility and agility and at the same time toning your stomach and thigh muscles.

Pilates goes far beyond your core muscles however and not only provides a complete body workout (you will be working muscles you didn’t even know you had!), but also helps you develop an awareness of how your body works, helping your mind and body to work in harmony.

Our Classes

We hold classes at the Pioneering Care Centre on Tuesdays from 4.45 pm – 6.00 pm and also at School Aycliffe Community Hall on Wednesdays from 6.00 pm until 7.15 pm.

Classes last 1 hour 15 minutes and cover a good range of exercises developing core strength, flexibility, posture, and balance. All equipment for class is provided.

The entry age for classes is 16 years.

Private/small group sessions are also available; these are particularly good for clients new to Pilates needing to learn the Pilates technique before joining a class.

Clients quickly see and feel the difference Pilates can make, and for many it becomes an important part of their lives.
