Voter ID required for local elections on 4 May 2023

Voter Photo ID 

Local elections are taking place on Thursday, 4 May in the West Ward and Byerley Park, Horndale and Cobblers Hall Ward of Great Aycliffe Town Council.

Anyone who wishes to vote at these elections must be registered to vote in this area and must also show an acceptable form of photo ID, in line with the requirements of the UK Government’s Election Act.

Accepted forms of photo ID include passports, driving licences and concessionary travel passes, such as an older person’s bus pass. Voters will also be able to use expired ID if they are still recognisable from the photograph.

Voters who do not have an accepted form of photo ID can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate for the purpose of voting on the government website.

All application for a free Voter Authority Certificate for this election, must be received by 5pm on Tuesday, 25 April.

Anyone who is not registered or has recently moved house in these areas and have not informed electoral services is encouraged to register at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote by Monday, 17 April.

Poll Cards

Poll cards are to be delivered to residents from Tuesday, 11 April.

Anyone currently registered on the electoral register and eligible to vote in this election will receive a poll card providing details of your allocated polling station.

Anyone who is listed on the electoral register can request a postal or proxy vote.

The deadline for postal vote applications is 5pm on Tuesday, 18 April and for proxy vote applications is 5pm on Tuesday, 25 April.
