The Parish Remembers
There was a great show of support from residents of the town for our armed forces at the Remembrance Day parade on Sunday 12th November.
Revd Jeff Anderson and LLM James Walsh 
carried out a short service outside of St. Clare’s Church and everyone observed the two minutes silence perfectly.
The poppy wreaths were laid, led by a representative of the Lord Lieutenant’s Office, Dame Dela Smith DBE DL, followed by the Reviewing Officer, Maj. Lovelock-Jeffels, Paul Howell MP, the Mayor of Great Aycliffe, Councillor Carl Robinson and County Councillors together with members of the Armed Forces, clubs, churches, schools and members of the public.
Following a Service of Remembrance in church conducted by Revd. Jeff Anderson and LLM James Walsh, the parade assembled outside for the March Past and Salute overseen by the Reviewing Officer. The Parade was dismissed in the yard of the Barnard Armoury.
Later that day, a Remembrance Day commemoration was carried out at St Andrews Church, Aycliffe Village with Rev. Ann Anderson carrying out the service. The rainy weather didn’t dampen the spirits though, and the assembled congregation all joined in to sing the national anthem after the laying of wreaths at the memorial.
Armistice Day Blessing
A short blessing was also held in the Town Centre to mark Armistice Day on Saturday, 11th November at 11am where the observance of the two minutes silence took place.
The Mayor Councillor Carl Robinson said, “I would like to thank the people of Great Aycliffe for their tremendous support for Remembrance Sunday and the great parade by Armed Forces, Veterans and Scouts of all ages, as Mayor I was honoured to lay a wreath in remembrance of the fallen heroes on behalf of Great Aycliffe Town Council”.

As this is the final Remembrance Day commemoration that the Revd Canon Ann Anderson and Revd. Jeff Anderson will be overseeing, the Town Council would like to take the opportunity to thank them for all their hard work and dedication to our community of Great Aycliffe over the past few years and send our best wishes to them for their next adventure.
Revd. Canon Ann Anderson said, “ Both Revd Jeff and I have found serving the town a privilege with many blessings. We’ve appreciated the cooperation and sense of partnership with the Town Council”.
