Environment Group

The environment was extremely important to the residents of Great Aycliffe and came out as the second most important topic from the town wide questionnaire with 706 respondents ranked it as important or extremely important.

The overwhelming comments were that the town should retain the green spaces; maintain the garden/green feel; its what Aycliffe is best known for as well as areas for the children and young people to play in a safe environment.

The environment thematic group have been busy mapping key green areas/spaces and researching planning policies in order to project them and maintain the character of the area.  Work is on-going but progress is being made.

A character assessment of the area has been procured and it is anticipated that the findings from the assessment will help provide sufficient evidence to support the planning policies around protecting the green areas and spaces that make Newton Aycliffe unique.
