Be creative. Be safe. Make a difference!
Great Aycliffe Town Council is inviting children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) to take part in our SEND Firework Safety Poster Competition.
We want to give everyone the opportunity to get creative and share an important message about staying safe around fireworks.
All abilities and ways of communicating are welcome.
Three creative categories
🎨 Sensory – Draw, Paint, Craft
Create your firework safety message using drawing, painting, craft or other sensory-friendly creative activities.
✂️ Mixed Media – Most Creative Material Use
Get creative with different materials and show us how imaginative you can be. You could use paper, fabric, recycled materials, collage materials or anything else that helps you bring your idea to life.
💻 Digital Design
This category includes photography, digital illustration, assistive technology, digital art and other forms of digital creativity.
An inclusive competition
We understand that everyone communicates and creates in different ways. Entries can be submitted in any format that is suitable for the participant’s needs.
This could include:
- Artwork
- Drawings or paintings
- Craft or collage
- Photography
- Digital media
- Symbol-based communication
- Assistive technology
- Digital illustration
- Other creative formats
You don’t need to be an artist to take part. We want to see your ideas and your firework safety message.
How will entries be judged?
Our judges will focus on:
- Creativity
- Effort
- Communication of the firework safety message
Artistic ability will not be the only consideration. We want to celebrate individual creativity, ideas, effort and different ways of communicating.
Firework safety
Your entry should include a message about firework safety. You could think about messages such as:
- Keeping a safe distance from fireworks
- Making sure children are supervised
- Keeping pets safe
- Only using fireworks in safe and suitable areas
- Listening to safety instructions
- Staying safe when watching fireworks
Be creative and share your own firework safety message!
Who can enter?
The competition is open to children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.
We welcome entries from individuals with a wide range of abilities and communication styles. Participants can create their entry independently or with appropriate support.
Closing date
Monday 2nd November 2026 at 5pm
