80th Anniversary of VE Day – Lighting the Beacon
Great Aycliffe Town Council marked the 80th Anniversary of VE Day, by lighting the beacon on the Oak Leaf Sports Complex Field. This was part of a national event ‘A Shared Moment of Celebration’, which remembered the end of the war in Europe on 8th May 1945.
Councillors along with Army Reserves, Air Cadets and members of the community came together to mark the 80th Anniversary of VE Day.
The march was lead by a piper, the Mayor of Great Aycliffe lit the beacon, the last post was played and a two minute silence was observed.
We would like to thank everyone who took part in marking this historic occasion.
