80th Anniversary of VE Day – Picnic in the Park

On Saturday 10th May the community came together to celebrate this historic event, there was a free shuttle bus service from the town to the Oak Leaf Sports Complex field, provided by Aycliffe and District Bus Preservation Society. The sun shone and the entertainment kicked off with Aycliffe and Brancepeth Brass Band playing a wonderful compilation of well-known tunes. Newton Aycliffe Piped Band followed with a rousing and emotional performance of highland favourites.

 

The crowd was then treated to a glorious performance by the Shine Choir, with a medley of toe tapping tunes. Aycliffe Dance Academy then took to the stage and entertained us with a variety of show stopping routines.

 

The finale of the event was singer Claire Louise, she entertained the audience with 1940’s sing along classics and danced her way through the decades with hit after hit. The crowd sang and danced along with her!
