SEN
The Government has asked all local authorities in the UK to publish, in one place, information about the services and provision they expect to be available in their area for children and young people from 0 to 25 who have Special Educational Needs and/or a Disability (SEND). This is known as the Local Offer.
Here at St. Oswald’s we believe all children are entitled to a quality provision that will enable them to achieve their potential.
From the minute your child starts at St. Oswald’s we have systems in place to monitor their progress carefully.
We recognise all children are different and take into account the additional support or resources required to enable the children to make the best possible progress.
We meet with parents / carers of a child with SEND before they start Pre-School to gather information on how we can help and the resources that will be required; this enables the staff to prepare for the child starting with us. We also take on board advice from other professionals involved with the child.
To ensure staff get to know your child well, they have their own Key Person who will get to know them and be proactive in planning their needs, working closely with parents, other Professionals, i.e. Speech & Language Therapist and our SENCO, Abigail Gamble.
SEND children are observed closely and their achievements are celebrated in their learning journal. This information is then used to tailor the curriculum to meet the interests of each child using methods of delivery that are appropriate to their needs.
Through carefully planned support, we ensure that our curriculum is accessible to all. Children with SEND are supported in a variety of ways – through one to one support, group activities or whole Key Person tasks. The Key person for each child will decide how everyday activities and experiences within the curriculum can be adjusted to ensure their child is fully involved at the appropriate level.
